Free Chinese Lessons
Nothing can compare to learning a foreign language in the native country. You are constantly exposed to the language and in many situations will be encouraged to use Chinese. With the help of your teachers, the necessary grammar, a great deal of effort and the help of your host family, you will be able to talk to the locals in no time.
Our Homestay China participants receive small group language classes, one and a half hours per day, five days a week. Homestay students are placed in appropriate classes according to their proficiency level.
Professional teaching environment
Homestay China cooperates with Kunming College of Eastern Language and Culture (KCEL), which was founded in 2001. It is Kunming's first professional training school specialized in teaching Chinese language and culture to foreigners. So far, they have trained more than 8000 students (by terms) coming from over 80 countries in the world. The school provides professional and excellent teachers, a homey and graceful studying environment, an advanced teaching theory, scientific teaching methods, practical courses, flexible teaching styles, perfect services and remarkable teaching results. All of the above has made the school become popular among overseas students.
KCEL holds joint education programs with many well-known universities in China. Overseas students can be introduced to those related universities for Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and Doctor's Degree studies once they meet the admission requirements and after they pass our training and HSK. After a successful participation in the program students can receive an officially approved language certificate, which will be recognized by many universities for claiming credits. If you want to know more details about the Chinese classes, please check the website of KCEL.

How many characters do I need to know...
...to be able to have a basic conversation? And how many Chinese characters are there?
You find numbers between 50,000 and 80,000 thousand Chinese characters and even more on the internet. There is no need to count all the ancient characters, which are not in use anymore.
In a comprehensive modern dictionary there are rarely over 20,000 characters. An educated Chinese person will know about 8,000 characters, but you will only need about 2-3,000 to be able to read a newspaper.
