Guiyang is the 1200 years old capital of China's South-Western province Guizhou, home of the Miao Nationality, one of the oldest and largest minority groups in China. Guizhou shares borders with Sichuan, Yunnan, Hubei, Chongqing and Guangxi and is part of the Yun-Gui plateau.

Beautiful karst mountains, unexplored caves and Huangguoshu the largest waterfall in China are just a few of Guizhou's natural highlights. The city of Guiyang lies in the center of the province and is surrounded by a great number of ancient towns and minority villages. Almost 40% of Guizhou's population belong to the 49 different ethnic groups living in Guizhou.

Towns such as Rongjiang, Zhaoxing, Diping and Liping are places which attract a lot of researchers every year. A reason for those strong interests is that those places preserved their ancient architectures, customs and style of clothing.

Guiyang, with it's 4.3 million inhabitants, is the economic and commercial hub of the province. It is not as developed as other major Chinese cities, however it is growing as fast as most of South-Western cities in China.

Guiyang has a humid sub-tropical climate with four seasons, warm summers and mild winters are very common in this area. The city can be reached by plane, train or bus, it's downtown area is known for great food markets and a lively atmosphere. Guizhou cuisine in general has it's very special and unique style.

After hours of shopping and eating, many people like relaxing at the Hongfu Temple or go for a walk to Qianling Park and watch monkeys dealing with their daily affairs.
